            I hope all is well by the time this letter reaches you. I am Queen Carrasco, a first-year Computer Science and Sociology student at the Grove School of Engineering at the City College of New York. I am applying for the Data Science/Analytics Internship you posted on LinkedIn. Because I would like to become a Computational Social Scientist, I am interested in this position, as I would like to further develop my data visualization and analytics skills, specifically with large amounts of information. With previous experience in a Research Assistant position for the Grove School of Engineering, my passion, drive, and knowledge can help me contribute solutions to the problems that professionals at ManTech may face. I am a strong candidate for this internship position because of my knowledge of SQL, Python, and verbal and written communication skills.

            My work as a research assistant consists of importing massive amounts of data into the MySQL Workbench. I create a minimum of 3 tables weekly and then extract that imported data using SQL SELECT and JOIN queries. From the extracted data, I use Python – specifically Numpy and Matplotlib – to create visual representations of the data I find. I create a minimum of 10 bar graphs and charts, each featuring its legends and periods. Using the charts and data that I analyze, I then create 1 presentation per week, demonstrating all the work I have done for the given amount of time. Meeting with my boss for 30-60 minutes per week, I communicate my results with him, as well as any issues I might have come across or had. Moreover, I write reports detailing the tools that I use, as well as the results produced.
